Hostage Taking – August 23 2010- Quirino Grandstand, Manila Philippines

Everyone’s talking about it.. Mehn, I was sleepin the whole time yesterday and woke up around 6pm, thats when I heard the news. Thanks to the cab driver who turned his radio on while I was on my way to work. Damn, Im feelin sick in my stomach just realizing how the drama ended.

Just the recent Yahoo post says 9 were confirmed dead from the bloody hostage crisis yesterday. And these victims are Hongkong nationals who just went to the Philippines to tour. Now the Hongkong govt issued top-level black travel alert for the Philippines which ofcourse is a total downfall to our country’s tourism.

So I think Ive heard enough of people’s opinion on this. Ive been monitoring Facebook updates from the time I logged in 20 hrs ago and a lot of FB users post “extreme disappointment” to their status messages.

People are Mad about :

How the police screwed everything up. Their lack of experience and slow reaction. I heard tons of this.
How the media got involved, reporting stuff resulting to a more agitated hostage-taker.
The govt high officials
The President, for his poor leadership *which I think is irrelevant, coz they just couldnt set aside political issues for now, its not a question of leadership, its about people’s lack of understanding *

Its all been done, lets just hope that as a nation we can get over this and correct whatever mistakes we have when it comes to implementing policies and procedures *in whatever sense* Our country’s in a bad light right now and its sad to hear reports putting us on a hot seat. Im crossing my fingers on us.

My battle against Pimples

Posted in Beauty, Humor on August 20th, 2010 by Joan Mae – 7 Comments

Thanks to these nasty red bumps, I went from feeling confident to self-concious. Oh well, I guess everybody does. Dont you just love it when you wake up one day and saw that grrrooosss red zit right in the middle of your nose ( not to mention that it has that yellow icky stuff inside ) Ha! Its not just a zit sister, its a HUGE zit!

And the reason why Im writing this its coz I have a pimple in my right cheek . I remember how hard life was when they used to be Everyyyywhere, all overr my face!

Ive had my own fight.. geez.. It was a war.. like literally. Its not only aggravating to have pimples, its costly as well. You buy loads of scrubs, facial wash, acne ointment and all that stuff you see in the drugstore that really wont do anything. Ive tried so many brands and it didnt help. It took a year for me to get rid of my pimples and now I have less, well, I still have them once in awhile but unlike before they appear from time to time like my face was cursed.

What worked for me :
1. Get a lot of sleep!
2. Dont stuff ur face with too much product – I realized the more product you use, the more sensitive your skin will be, the more prone it is to have breakouts.
3. Use non comedogenic products – I thought I only hear this on ads, but seriously , it worked, use water based products. ( these are products that wont clog your pores and are not too harsh , they worked well on my skin)
4. Dont use too much scrub!-This is one of my greatest mistake, I had an obsessive urge to scrub my face everyday, I use a lot of scrub, and I think Ive tried all brands. But its a NO-NO so yea dont do it.
5. Dont ever sleep with your make up on ( Never ever do this sin to your skin if you dont wanna wake up lookin hey-ugly the next day )
5. Moisturizeeee…
6. Drink water .. ( a lot! )
7. Again.. SLEEP!

Products I leaned on :
*Panoxyl
*Cetaphil or Neutrogena Acne wash
*Clean and Clear Toner
*Ponds Night cream
* Celeteque Moisturizer

Price-increase on cigarettes by 2011. Yays !

Wow, I just heard this from my officemates  while we were puffin last night, and I was like ” No way?! Php 7.00 per cigarette stick?? Are you kidding mee?? ” and well, they’re positive as ever. “Hell yea! 7 per stick, it’ll kill your pocket as much as it kill your lungs”. So I figured that anytime next year, we are gonna go through a Hey-you-owe-me-one-stick phase and No-more-paBAM-muna yosi breaks ”

And my next question is:

Why the hell is this happening?

I know this came out some time last week in papers and TV, but I just found it out the other day, so Im readin my own stuff. According to Philstar ( its a newspaper in the Philippines, just so you know ) there was a proposal to “impose a P90 tax per 20-stick pack of cigarettes by the Dept of Health Secretary to raise more revenues for the government“. Although there hasn’t been any policy discussion on this proposal yet but Im seeing sky-high chances of this being approved.

Makes sense to me though…

Well, the reason why they’re adopting the US tax scheme for cigarettes, proposed by President Obama, is to reduce access to tobacco since they are reducing the capacity of people to afford it. And theyre eyeing on minors.. Population of kids getting into the habit is increasing due to the availability of cigarettes at the price they can afford. And besides, smoking is dangerous!! Like really dangerous , coz youre gonna die of lung cancer!! People are dying every year because they cant stop puffin’ ** oh god.. convince me ** Uhmm I smoke.. sometimes.. well yea.. not really -_- ( okey lets not talk about me coz my mom’s gonna kill me if she ever read this). And yea, I think the will to quit should be personal. It all boils down to controlling one’s self and resisting the urge. Yays..
